Assistant boss Chris Hutchings has challenged Town’s younger players to keep showing they’re worth their shirts when the Blues take on Hull City at the KC Stadium on Saturday. The likes of Tommy Smith, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Andy Drury, older but inexperienced in the Championship, have been keeping senior players such as Ibrahima Sonko, Lee Bowyer and, prior to his suspension, Jimmy Bullard on the bench.

Paul Jewell is hoping to repeat his 2006 Carling Cup semi-final triumph over Arsenal with Wigan when Town take on the Gunners at the Emirates at the same stage of the competition this evening (BBC2 and BBC HD, 7.30pm). The Blues go into the game a goal up from the first leg, Tamás Priskin’s second half strike having seen them to a 1-0 victory at Portman Road a fortnight ago.

Jon Walters and Gavin Williams are slight doubts ahead of Tuesday's home game with Leicester City (KO 7.45pm). Walters picked up a dead leg during the second half of Saturday's game at Charlton, while Williams came off in the first period with a sore toe.

Gavin Williams is in the Town squad for the first time for Saturday's game at Cardiff City having missed the first three months of the season after damaging ankle ligaments in the pre-season friendly with Panathinaikos. Billy Clarke and Owen Garvan are also included after thigh and calf injuries respectively.

Full-back David Wright has emerged as a big doubt ahead of Saturday's trip to Hull City (KO 12.30pm). The former Wigan man has an infected blister on a heel which is being treated with antibiotics.

Keeper Neil Alexander is Town's only doubt ahead of Saturday's game at Watford. The Scotland international will travel to Hertfordshire with the squad on Friday but could return to Suffolk if his wife Joanne, currently in Ipswich Hospital, goes into labour.

Tickets have gone on sale for Town's friendly at Bury Town on Friday, 27th July (KO 7.45pm). The Blues are planning to send a full strength side for the game arranged as part of the deal which saw Ian Miller join Town from the Ridgeons League side last season.

Central defender Jerrome Sobers is set to join Boston United on a month's loan. Sobers, 18, signed for the Blues from non-league Ford United (now Redbridge) in February last year and has become a regular in the reserves.
